Today I bring you another crochet project that will become your new Summer essential ;).
This bag is perfect to put everything you need to go to the beach, swimming pool or if you’re running some errands!
For the body of the bag, we’ll be working with dc and ch spaces. I added a popocorn stitch border to the sides.
I was inspired by Molla Mills Crochetterie book. If for some strange reason you never heard of her, she’s the like THE queen of modern crochet, dah!
Check her amazing work on her instagram @molla.mills.
For the yarn I used 100% cotton from Lana Grossa. This is my first time trying their yarn and I was very happy with the result, easy to work with a soft touch to it.
What you need to know before you start:
— It’s made of 2 rectangular pieces to form the body, worked flat from the bottom-up. Then we attach the sides by crocheting them together to form the bubble edging. At the end, we crochet in rounds a few rows to finish the opening of the bag, so we can sew the handles easier.
— I used 2 skeins of Lana Grossa, Cotone Dégradé in color light grey.
1 skein: 100 g – 250 m (273 yd)
— I chose to put cotton handles instead of crocheting them. I find them more resistant and comfortable to daily use!
— It’s very important that you keep your tension tight during this project or, if it’s easier, use one crochet hook size smaller than the one recommended with your yarn. This way the bag will keep longer the shape and won’t stretch too much with the weight !

ASSAMBLING + EDGING
Put the front over the wrong side of the back, keeping the right side facing you. Take the yarn and attach it to the left upper side corner.
You will crochet the front and back at the same time to make the edging.
Chain 1, *sc 1 at the beginning of the row, sc 1 in the dc space*, ( you should be making 2 sc for each row and column ) repeat *this* until the end of the right side or the opposite corner of where you started.
( If you don’t want to make the popcorn stitch you can stop here, sl st and make 8 rounds of 1 sc for each st around the upper side of the bag. Finish with a sl st in the first sc of the last round, cut and hide the ends. )
Popcorn stitch (ppc st) : ch 2, {yarn over, (in the second ch from the hook) pull the yarn trough, *yarn over, (in the same ch space ) pull the yarn through*, repeat *this* once more. You should have 7 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook}. Make 2 ch, repeat what is in between { }. To form the popcorn: sl st in the very first ch where you started the ppc st. I f you need help visualising this st, look up on youtube there’re tones of videos and tutorials showing you how to do it!
Turn your work, *make 2 ch, 1 ppc st and 2 ch, skip 3 sts, 1 sl st in the next one*, repeat *this* until the end of the first edging row. Finish with a sl st in the first ch.
To finish, make 8 rounds of 1 sc for each st around the upper side (opening) of the bag. Finish with a sl st in the first sc of the last round, cut and hide the ends.
HANDLES
The last thing is to place the handles over the sc sts and sew them by hand, keeping the same distance in both sides. You can recycle an old bag handles and use them for this project!
And voilà you’re finish!!
I hope you enjoy making this bag 🙂
